"Expanding Our Pawprint"Capital Campaign

Together, We Build Their Tomorrow.
VOCAL’s Expanding Our Pawprint Capital Campaign is dedicated to meeting the growing animal welfare needs of our community — today and for generations to come.

As Marion County continues to grow, so does the need for accessible veterinary care, rescue support, pet food assistance, education, and safe recovery spaces for animals in need. This campaign will help VOCAL expand its campus, strengthen its programs, and build a future where more pets and the people who love them can receive the support they deserve.

Campus Vision

VOCAL’s campus expansion is designed to help meet the needs of a growing community while creating spaces that support care, recovery, education, and long-term impact.

The conceptual site plan shows how the campus can grow over time, including the proposed Welcome Center, Intake & Recovery building, future long-term care areas, walking paths, and expanded outdoor spaces.

Phase I: Welcome Center

The proposed Welcome Center will create a more welcoming, functional, and flexible space for VOCAL’s growing programs and community services.

This building will support expanded clinic services, pet food bank operations, education, collaboration, donor engagement, and community outreach. The floor plan includes space for reception, exam rooms, a pet food pantry, conference room, multi-purpose room, and support areas.

Phase II: Intake & Recovery

The Intake & Recovery building will provide dedicated space for vulnerable animals entering VOCAL’s care.

This space is designed to help protect shelter health, safely support new arrivals, provide recovery areas for sick or vulnerable animals, and increase VOCAL’s ability to bring more animals into care. The plan includes kennel areas, sick bays, cat intake space, exam space, laundry, storage, and recovery support areas.

Phase III: And Beyond

VOCAL’s long-term campus vision includes additional spaces that will help serve animals with specialized needs and create a stronger future for animal welfare in our community.

Future plans include areas for new dog moms and puppies, long-term care housing for senior and endowed pets, expanded cat spaces, walking trails, shaded areas, and outdoor spaces that support training, rest, and enrichment.

What We Will Build Together

Through this campaign, VOCAL is working to expand its ability to care for pets, support families, and serve the community for decades to come.

Your support will help VOCAL:

  • Expand access to care for pets in need
  • Double the capacity to intake homeless pets
  • Save more lives of very sick animals
  • Expand key programs, including clinic services, rescue, outreach, and education
  • Create safe spaces for vulnerable animals
  • Invest in youth humane education
  • Build a campus that will serve this community for generations

A community’s growth should never outpace its compassion
